THE SPECIES THAT PAYS TO LIVE IN EARTH
The new era of the Anthropocene or age of humans, which has ominously now become an officially-recognised and no longer purely speculative stratigraphical division on the geological timescale, has far-reaching implications for both how this species lives on Earth and for how we understand our position in relation to the planet and our terrestrial co-dwellers. This talk focuses on contemporary art projects that illuminate the rift between the patterns, cycles, peaks and troughs of the abstract world of high finance and the physical processes of the biogeochemical reality of the biosphere.
Maja Fowkes and Reuben Fowkes are art historians, curators and co-directors of the Translocal Institute for Contemporary Art in Budapest.
