Marko Sančanin (Zagreb 1975.) studied political science and architecture in Zagreb. He is founder and director of the Platforma 9,81 Institute for Research in Architecture. The Institute is exploring spatial and urban implications of shifting political, economic and cultural identities. Marko’s research and theoretical works as well as his designs deal with concepts of spatial justice, socially sustainable development and cultural heritage.
In his lecture, Marko Sancinin introduces the work of his organization Platforma 9,81, and talks about the spatial poetics of abandoned places and ruins; the political aspects of the abandoned spaces and potentials for political innovations and new social experiences in these spaces; and the practical, urbanistic and legal aspects of temporary inhabitation, as well as about the “postsocialist utopias” Platforma 9,81 developed in Croatia.
